About CCHS

The Chariton County Historical Society was founded in 1956 by a group of people with a strong interest in preserving the heritage and history of Chariton county. Since its beginning, CCHS has strived to preserve the county’s history through its collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, and other memorabilia.

Today, that same desire is at the core of everything CCHS does. It has a dedicated team that works countless hours to ensure Chariton County history is preserved.

The Chariton County Museum

CCHS headquarters are at the Chariton County Museum located in Salisbury, Missouri. The museum is home to hundreds of artifacts from Chariton County’s past, as well as the societies collection of historical county records.

The museum is open from the first Tuesday in April through the last Saturday in October. Regular museum hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM or by special appointment. Admission is free, so be sure to come in for a tour!
