Isaac was the son of Alexander Washington Smith (1798-1891) and Jane Rice (Bricken) Smith (1804-1886) and was one of 8 children.
Isaac married Nancy (McCart) Smith in 1852 and they were the parents of 11 known children. Nancy died in 1887 and is buried in the Fitzgerald Cemetery.
